Rebuilding a Home for a World War II Veteran

Memories of D-Day remain vivid for 93-year-old veteran Charles Adderley. Following his return home from World War II, the Miami native raised five children, worked for the United States Postal Service and served actively through his church community. But by 2017, the home where Adderley had been residing for 40 years was suffering from a damaged roof and was in dire need of repairs. United by their respect and gratitude for their neighbor and friend, an eclectic mix of volunteers—firefighters, police officers, neighbors, and fellow veterans—have come forward to rebuild Mr. Adderley’s beloved, longtime home. This Great Big Story is a paid contribution by MassMutual. Watch more stories about The Unsung here.
